Marketing 101: The Power of a Press Release

Obviously every so often, the producers of ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition issues a press release that local media can localize and adapt into a news story.

If you look at the phrasing used in this story from the Greensburg (IN) Daily News and compare it to that in another recent piece from Long Island's Newsday, you can see that the stories most likely started with an email blast and though the exercise will find homes for the show to renovate, by having them localized, it personalizes the show, generates talk and will also help create viewers.

A quick, non-exhaustive Google based on just one of the quotes produced 250 hits from the past two years.
