Sometimes it's the Little Things

Due to either a software problem or a misapplied setting on the scanner, the electronic copies of city records in Rutland, Vermont are missing periods and the little dots above the lowercase letter i.

It appears that commas are unaffected, but a spokesperson for IMAS, the software maker, implies that if it is the setting, then apostrophes might also be missing.

Ordinarily this may not seem like a big thing and one could certainly learn to live with run-on sentences, especially those of us who frequent the blogosphere, but when a document references something with a decimal point, 2.2 acres could look like 22.
